A Memorandum was Signed Between the Ministries of Education and Justice
The purpose of the memorandum of cooperation is to ensure the accessibility of vocational training programs for the beneficiaries of the Crime Prevention Center of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia under the "Rehabilitation and Resocialization Program for Former Convicts", their family members, as well as minors involved in diversion and mediation programs.
According to the memorandum, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia undertakes the obligation to ensure the vocational training of former convicts, their family members, and diverted minors, as well as to determine the vocational educational institutions where the vocational training of the beneficiaries will take place. Monitoring of this process will be carried out by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Justice, for its part, undertakes the obligation to actively participate both in the development of the monitoring mechanism for the implementation of vocational training programs and in ensuring the involvement of the Center's employees in the monitoring of the retraining process. The Ministry of Justice will facilitate the employment of successful graduates in cooperation with vocational educational institutions.
At the initiative of the Minister of Justice of Georgia, the rehabilitation and resocialization program was launched at the end of 2012. This is the first state program to assist former convicts. Its aim is to promote the rehabilitation of persons released from penitentiary institutions and their reintegration as full-fledged members of society. The success of the project contributes to the creation of a secure environment in the country and protects society from repeat offenses.
