Cooperation between the Ministry of Education and UNICEF continues

UNICEF, in collaboration with Estonia, is supporting the MoES in the revision of the curriculum of all grades to make it more inclusive and responsive to the contemporary needs. In 2014 the curriculum of grades 1 – 6 has been revised. This lays the foundation for the development and publication in 2015 of new textbooks for these grades.

The revision of the curriculum of grades 7-12 will take place in 2015 with a view to make it more flexible, enabling students with various backgrounds and aspirations to follow their areas of interests. It will take into account the need to infuse general education core curriculum into VET programmes, to correspond to the challenges and accents of higher education system and labor market as well.

UNICEF has also been providing support to four State Universities in the improvement of the programmes for pre-service teacher education. In 2015, this support will be provided to regional universities that offer pre-service teacher education. In the framework of this cooperation between UNICEF, Georgia and Estonia, a Teacher Policy Forum will be organised in April 2015, where international experts in teacher education will share best international practices and insights. Georgian policy makers and teacher trainers will discuss policy options for enhancing teacher quality and raising the status of the teaching profession.
