Gender equality in the country s economic development and progress

Millennium Challenge Fund - Georgia held a discussion: "Gender equality in the country s economic development and progress." The aim of the meeting was to discuss ways to increase women and girls  interest in science, engineering and exact sciences. Studies and empirical data show that girls are equal and even ahead of boys academically in mathematics and natural sciences, but their self-esteem is low, they remain captive to stereotypes and do not continue education and employment of technical professions.

During implementation of the second 140 million dollar compact carrying out by Millennium Challenge corporation ( MCC ) particular attention is paid to social and gender aspects, which is tightly integrated with all directions of the Compact. It is considered that gender inequality can significantly hamper the country s development. Thus, the integration of gender issues provides access to female MCC investments and benefits received, resources and quality education, which, in turn, increases their motivation to continue their studies at the post secondary level.

Information about Millennium Challenge Fund- Georgia Millennium Challenge Fund - Georgia s second compact aim is to reduce poverty in the country, with the support of economic growth and the strengthening of human capital. Compact task is to develop a skilled labor force in Georgian science, technology and engineering (Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics - STEM) fields by strengthening quality of general, vocational and higher education.
