The meeting of Minister of Education and Science of Georgian and USA ambassador

Ongoing projects that are implemented with the assistance of USA Government will continue in future and cooperation will get in a new phase. This and other issues were discussed on the meeting that was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Ms. Tamar Sanikidze and United  States Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly. The meeting was also attended by the director of Millennium Challenge Corporation representative Ms. Kateri Klement .

On the meeting they assessed all ongoing joint projects. They especially underlined  the second compact of  US Millennium Challenge Corporation, which dedicated to the increasing  economic growth and overcoming of poverty through the  implementation of educational programs.

In the high education, 30 $ million is directed to the establishment of Georgian- American Universities, and creation of higher education programs in sciences , technology and engineering.  Under this program, the cooperation  memorandum was signed by the Government of Georgia and US San Diego State University and above mentioned University already received the first flow  of students in bachelor programs. In computer engineering,  electrical engineering in chemistry and bio -chemistry. After the graduation students will get the American diplomas of San Diego State University.

• For the support of general education US Government granted the 75$ million for the improvement of school infrastructure and teaching environment.
• 16$ million by Compact  is directed to the supporting the vocational technical education.
• Worth mentioning the close cooperation between Rustaveli Fund and  Research and development Fund of USA, under which, was fulfilled a few scientific projects.
• Also we have to mention the USAID funded project of  primary education (G-pried), which directed to the improvement the level of literacy and math knowledge among the pupils. The project is quite consecutive and successful.
• The role  volunteers of Peace Corps is  huge in the process of English language teaching and establishing western culture in our society.
• We have to stress also  the promotion of civil education teaching through the PH International, financed by the USA development fund.
