Statement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia
To prevent the seasonal spread of the flu virus, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia disseminates the recommendations of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health regarding the implementation of indirect preventive measures in schools:
- Individuals with symptoms of flu-like illness shall not be admitted to institutions;
- Intensify the ventilation regime in learning and upbringing spaces during every recess;
- Systematically carry out wet cleaning;
- Strengthen the monitoring of hand hygiene rules and informational activities.
In the event that symptoms of a flu-like illness develop while at the institution, the school doctor must immediately ensure the isolation of the sick person from the rest of the contingent and their transfer to their place of residence.
The school is recommended that if the rate of absenteeism due to illness in the school exceeds 20%, the school is obligated to submit this information to the public health center,
Furthermore, we urge schools to work intensively with parents and recommend that upon noticing the very first symptoms of the flu, they should not send the sick child to school. By doing so, you will help minimize the risk of the spread of the flu.
According to the data of January 20-21, the rate of absenteeism due to illness in Georgian schools does not exceed 16%. Attendance monitoring and information collection will continue for 8 calendar weeks and will be forwarded to public health centers.
