A modern school is being built in the Saburtalo district
In the Saburtalo district, the old emergency-status building of Public School No. 61 has been dismantled, and the construction of a modern standard school has begun in its place. Today, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, together with representatives of the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry, inspected the construction process.
The nearly century-old school serves a fairly large, densely populated neighborhood in the Saburtalo district. Consequently, the new construction is one of the large-scale projects, the value of which exceeds 7 million GEL.
The new building of Public School No. 61, which will be put into operation starting from the 2017-2018 academic year, will meet modern standards – featuring a heating system, indoor sports and assembly halls, a library, natural science classrooms and laboratories, and the school will be adapted for students with special educational needs. Ramps and an elevator will be installed at the entrances of both the main building and the sports hall. Restrooms will also be adapted. The school will have a doctor's office, a catering unit, and will be equipped with new inventory and technology.
Prior to the construction of the new building, the school's students and staff are temporarily accommodated in the 7th academic building of the Technical University located at 71 Kostava St., where, through the maximum efforts made by the Ministry of Education and Science and the school administration, all conditions and a safe environment necessary for the educational process have been created.
