Let's understand autism together and share A

In connection with World Autism Awareness Day, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze visited the students of Tbilisi Public School No. 198 and viewed an exhibition of works by adolescents with autism spectrum disorders.

The exhibition featured up to 50 paintings, clay crafts, various accessories, and posters. A festive atmosphere was created by the musicians of the para-orchestra. Children and adolescents with all categories of disabilities participated in the para-orchestra. They independently performed various musical pieces, played different instruments, and performed musical and dance numbers.

Tbilisi Public School No. 198 has 164 students, 47 of whom are on the autism spectrum, and all of them have special educational needs. Appropriate conditions tailored to the learning process have been created at the school for students with special educational needs. The classrooms are equipped in accordance with European standards. The classrooms contain the necessary inventory and computer equipment. Classrooms are divided into zones (individual work zone, rest zone, group work zone). Students on the autism spectrum enjoy an attractive, colorful, pleasant, friendly, and safe classroom space where, in addition to studying, they can freely move around and communicate.

The school possesses a fairly strong methodological base, and highly qualified teachers actively use new alternative teaching methodologies specifically tailored to the individual needs of students on the autism spectrum.

Since 2013, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has been implementing a special program under which integrated classes function in public schools of Georgia, where students with autism spectrum disorders study. Here, children acquire education using special methodology. The educational program is based on the National Curriculum and is adapted to the abilities and needs of children with autism spectrum disorders. There are classes that are conducted for integrated class students together with other students of the same school.
