An unprecedented Public School project

Refugees and asylum-seeking foreign students, who, unwillingly were forced to leave their homeland on account of war, are now studying at Public School № 81. These students are involved in the program - “Georgian language learning program for refugees, asylum-seekers and persons with humanitarian protection status”, initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, under which, the students will have the opportunity to learn and gain sufficient knowledge (writing, reading, listening, speaking), allowing them to continue their future education in any given general educational institution in Georgia.

There were 69 beneficiaries enrolled in Tbilisi Public School № 81, as having the humanitarian protection, asylum-seeking or refugee status. Moreover, these beneficiaries were provided with the competent teachers selected by a careful competition. On April 18, these students participated in the event dedicated to the Georgian language day, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science –Ms. Lia Gigauri.

Furthermore, a manuscript of Georgian and refugee students were exhibited on the event. In addition, letters from Georgian students to the refugees were displayed, in conjunction with screening “A message to Georgia”, which is a movie about friendship between Georgian and children with humanitarian protection status. Towards the end of the event, a friendly football match was held, and the Iraqi student sang a Georgian song. Lastly, the author of the best manuscript and the winners of the football match were award.
