A new plan for the development of inclusive education will be developed

On the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, monitoring of inclusive education at the general education level was carried out in 2017, the purpose of which was to analyze the results of the measures implemented by the Ministry in the direction of inclusive education and to identify existing challenges. Taking the identified needs into account, future activities necessary for the development of inclusive education will be planned accordingly.

The monitoring revealed:

• The importance of the existence of inclusive education in the system;
• Positive public attitude;
• The significance of implemented measures, projects, and support services.

However, it also revealed the necessity for the professional development of special education teachers; the qualification, motivation, and engagement of subject teachers remain low; there is a need to develop a well-functioning funding model; public schools require the improvement of their physical environment and more educational resources.
