A new cohort of applicants for the program "Georgian Language for Future Success" has been selected. Today, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Khatia Dekanoidze, met with a group of 149 teachers who will depart for regions populated by ethnic minorities on September 10, 2012, to teach the state language to non-Georgian-speaking students for one academic year.
The program "Georgian Language for Future Success," initiated by the President of Georgia, has been implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science since 2011. The project focuses on teaching the state language to ethnic minorities living in Georgia, and one of its key components is dispatching Georgian-speaking teachers to non-Georgian-speaking schools in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, and Kakheti.
Program participants live with local host families and also help family members learn the Georgian language. Volunteer teachers receive a monthly salary. In addition, young people holding a bachelor's degree, upon successful participation in the program and passing master's degree exams, receive a 100% master's grant from the state. At the same time, participation in the program counts towards their teaching experience, giving them the opportunity to continue working as teachers in schools.
Any citizen of Georgia whose native language is Georgian and who holds at least a bachelor's academic degree from an accredited higher education institution is eligible to participate in the program.
