Joint project of French and South Caucasian scientists continues
A contract signing ceremony for the Scientific Group (GDRI) โ "Geological Sciences of the South Caucasus" was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The event was attended by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia; Academician Vladimer Papava, Rector of TSU; Geneviรจve Fioraso, French Minister of State for Higher Education and Scientific Research; Academician Giorgi Kvesitadze, President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences; and Academician Radik Martirosyan, President of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences.
The scientific group was established in 2010 by French and South Caucasian scientists to analyze problematic issues arising within the framework of Earth sciences.
The first project was implemented from 2010 to 2014, which laid the foundation for close research and development relations among the project partners. The project partners include: the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (France), the University of Lille (France), Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Baku State University (Azerbaijan), the Institute of Geological Sciences of Armenia (Armenia), the Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth of Armenia (Armenia), and others.
The renewed project of the research group will promote cooperation among researchers working on Earth science issues from France, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and โ as a new partner โ Ukraine.
Given special social interests, during the second stage (2014โ2017), the focus will be placed on natural resources and seismic risks.
GDRI represents an ideal format for cooperation, as it provides opportunities for information sharing, the organization of working meetings, and the exchange of researchers and students. At the same time, with the support of the Embassy of France in Georgia, it is possible to implement scientific activities within the framework of the "Marco Polo Program" and the Erasmus Mundus project.
