New modular programs at Akhaltsikhe Vocational College
Within the framework of the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the vocational college โOpizariโ and the private sector with the aim of piloting modular teaching for the specialties of veterinary service specialist and farmer.
The memorandum provides for the mastery of practical components by vocational students at the production bases of the private sector, which, within the framework of implementing the new modular programs, inherently implies the active involvement of employers in the teaching process.
The new educational programs address the most pressing needs of Georgia's agricultural labor market. It is noteworthy that farming, as a profession, will be established in the vocational college curriculum for the first time.
The new programs were evaluated by the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Ketevan Natriashvili. According to her statement, these are very high-quality, completely modern, results-oriented modular programs that will ultimately raise quality and help us achieve the level we need in vocational education.
The piloting of the new educational programs will take place in the summer of 2014 at the vocational colleges of Akhaltsikhe, Kachreti, Telavi, and Senaki. 130 students will participate in the pilot programs.
The agricultural programs have been developed through the joint efforts of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
