Successful Georgian Students in the United Kingdom
The eight best-performing students in the National School Olympiad have departed for the United Kingdom, where they will spend two weeks attending an intensive English language course at a UK summer school. The students were selected through the "English Language Summer School in Georgia" program, which has been implemented for several years by the Ministry of Education and Science on the basis of "Buckswood International School - Tbilisi".
This year's English-language summer school program is enriched not only with academic hours in the English language, but also with non-academic programs, which include sports activities, intellectual games, and excursions to historical and notable sites. In the United Kingdom, the students will also become acquainted with local traditions and culture.
Within the framework of the "Summer Schools Program" for the current year, the Ministry is implementing the following activities:
- English Language Summer School in Georgia
- English Language Summer Schools in the United Kingdom
The participants of the English language summer school are 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students selected based on the results of the third stage of the National School Olympiad and various competitions organized by the Ministry of Education and Science, who are IDPs from public schools in the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the occupied territories, as well as from the territory of the former South Ossetia Autonomous Region as a result of the aggression carried out in August 2008. A total of 600 students are participating in the English language summer school.
The English language summer school is conducted in 4 streams, with 150 students participating in each stream. A 3-week English language summer school is being implemented for the students in Tqneti, on the basis of "Buckswood International School - Tbilisi", which includes an academic program (an intensive English language course of at least 20 hours per week) and non-academic English-language activities in the afternoon.
Out of the 600 students, the 32 best-performing students will be selected and will travel to the United Kingdom in 4 groups (8 students from each stream) for a duration of 2 weeks on a phased basis to participate in English language summer schools.
