First-graders were handed upgraded computers

The joint project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the company UGT, which envisaged providing first-graders with portable computers, has been successfully completed. On September 15, nearly 42,000 first-graders received the new, improved model of personal computers as a gift.

Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze, ACER Vice President Grigol Mizolsky, and UGT Vice President Guram Khojanashvili visited Tbilisi Public School No. 21 today to meet with first-graders and personally hear their evaluations of the new computers, as well as those of their homeroom teachers.

The first-graders' computers are manufactured by ACER, one of the world's leading personal computer manufacturers. Such equipment has repeatedly been supplied by the manufacturer to educational institutions in Europe and other countries around the world and enjoys high popularity.

The improved computers have the following features:

1) Weight – reduced by a maximum of 250 grams – it is much more convenient to carry, and the risk of a child accidentally dropping it is reduced. The surface texture is non-slip, and it withstands a 70 cm free fall, which is confirmed by the certificate provided by the factory.

2) Screen size and resolution – displays a larger image area with higher contrast on a moderately large screen (the screen diagonal has increased by 1.5", and the resolution by 40%; previously it was 0.6 mpx, now it is 1.01 mpx). The high-resolution screen (11.6 inches, LED backlit TFT LCD, HD 1366 x 768, 16:9 aspect ratio) causes less eye strain for the child.

3) Latest generation processor, significantly more powerful and energy-efficient (by at least 30-40% in both indicators), featuring high frequency and performance, which will enable first-graders to work fully in future grades as well;

4) Slim body and modern design; for safety purposes, the model has rounded corners;

5) Technological innovation: the computer does not require and does not have a cooling fan, operates silently, and does not heat up during operation;

6) Power source (battery) – improved and operates for approximately 6-7 hours (twice as long as its predecessor);

7) The computer has passed factory drop tests and comes with EU-recognized safety eco-certificates;

8) The product comes with a one-year free warranty service.
