Several important cooperation projects with CERN will be launched

Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze and Rector of the Georgian Technical University Archil Prangishvili met with the management of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). The main topic of the meeting was the establishment of a Grid (computer network) cluster based at the Georgian Technical University, which will simultaneously serve as one of CERN's computing resources in Georgia.

CERN representatives are visiting Tbilisi within the framework of the international conference on Grid & Cloud technologies. They have already held important negotiations with the Rector of the Georgian Technical University and agreed that four large-scale joint projects in the field of information technology will be implemented at the Technical University.

The meeting also addressed the issue of Georgia becoming an associate member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Foreign experts positively assess Georgia's scientific potential and note that Georgia's chances of becoming an associate member of CERN are very high. Readiness was expressed for a group of experts to visit Georgia in the near future to assess the capabilities on-site.
