The Ministry of Education of Georgia has created a website for foreigners to learn the Georgian language.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has created a special website for foreign learners of the Georgian language and Georgian emigrants. The presentation of the new website (geofl.ge) to the public was led by Minister Tamar Sanikidze and Marika Odzeli, Head of the Georgian Language Department.
The website link (geofl.ge) is already posted on the official pages of the Ministry of Education and Science and Georgian embassies, and individuals wishing to learn/teach the Georgian language from 70 countries around the world (Germany, Poland, Greece, Switzerland, Argentina, Belgium, Sweden, Russia, France, Italy, Austria, Ukraine, England, Iran, Australia, Chile, China, Turkey, etc.) are actively using it.
New textbooks and supplementary materials produced using European methodology have been made available on the website for foreign learners. This methodology for teaching and learning the Georgian language was developed in accordance with the recognized modern European system for foreign language teaching. Until now, Georgian as a foreign language has not been taught using such a methodology.
The website will help both foreign learners of the Georgian language and the new generation of Georgian emigrants to learn Georgian according to the modern Common European Framework. The website is also intended for Georgian language learners and teachers.
The necessity for the standardization of Georgian as a foreign language arose after Georgia became intensively involved in international processes, consequently creating the need to approach the Georgian language in two contexts: Georgian as the state language of Georgia, i.e., the language of internal circulation, and Georgian as one of the languages in world circulation. Therefore, the creation of the standard for Georgian as a foreign language has strategic significance and is truly a major state event. From now on, the Georgian language has become a language of international circulation.
