Georgian students are getting acquainted with the European Organization for Nuclear Research
The project is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia within the framework of the "Program for Encouraging Particularly Gifted Youth", and its aim is to increase students' interest in exact and natural sciences, raise the motivation of students and teachers, and improve the quality of teaching and learning in these disciplines.
Team competitions in exact and natural sciences were conducted by the Scientific Center of Young Creators "Progress" at the request of the Ministry. The principle of the competitions differed from the traditional Olympiad format. Completing the competition tasks required students to work as a team, apply research and creative skills, carry out theoretical and experimental work, and aimed to develop and implement a solution to the given task/problem.
Students of the 9th grade participated in physics, chemistry, and biology, while students of the 7th-9th grades participated in mathematics. As a result of the competitions, 3 winning teams were identified in each subject (each team consisted of 3 students and one supervising teacher).
By the decision of the Ministry, the winning teams of the aforementioned competitions were awarded participation in international educational excursions (the CERN laboratory and the Copernicus Science Centre).
