The effectiveness of integrated classes is increasing
Based on a survey conducted in 2014, it was revealed that the inclusion of integrated class students in the educational process and daily school activities is highly effective. Consequently, in 2015, the Ministry increased the budget of the "Program for the Promotion of Inclusive Education" and numerous projects are being implemented in this direction. At this stage, with the aim of strengthening additional skill-building services for students with special educational needs, integrated classes established in public schools were provided with tablet computers, while boarding schools for hearing-impaired students received interactive whiteboards (Smart Boards).
Today, Tamar Sanikidze, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, visited students with autism spectrum disorders in the integrated class of Tbilisi Public School No. 41, inquired about the progress of their educational process, and personally familiarized herself with how these students use the developmental software installed on tablet computers in the learning process.
The tablet computers are loaded with special programs that enable students to develop various skills, become more actively involved in the educational process, and maximize their potential.
Given the importance of integrated classes, the Ministry is prepared to open an integrated class in any public school in Georgia, should the need arise.
As is known, in 2014 Georgia acceded to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Accordingly, all activities implemented and planned by the Ministry of Education and Science to develop inclusive education serve to fully meet the requirements set forth in Article 24 of the Convention.
