“Old Georgian-Old Armenian Documented Dictionary”
The presentation of the book "Old Georgian-Old Armenian Documented Dictionary", published by the National Centre of Manuscripts and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, as well as an exhibition of Ilia Abuladze's archival materials, was held at the Tbilisi City Assembly (Sakrebulo) Gallery.
The event was attended by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Buba Kudava, Director of the National Centre of Manuscripts, Giorgi Alibegashvili, Chairperson of the City Assembly, and other invited guests.
Ilia Abuladze, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Armenologist, founder and first director of the National Centre of Manuscripts, dedicated a large part of his life to compiling the dictionary. Unfortunately, he did not manage to complete the book during his lifetime, and it was prepared for publication by his students and staff members of the National Centre of Manuscripts.
"Old Georgian-Old Armenian Documented Dictionary", in terms of its function, composition, and volume, is a milestone work in the research and investigation of converging problems and tasks of Georgian and Armenian studies. Due to its specific nature, the dictionary is a rare phenomenon in the field of Oriental literature and culture.
The new publication will enable individuals interested in the interrelations between Georgian and Armenian literature to obtain desired information about lexical units of all contents without having to read through a number of literary monuments. The dictionary will serve as a guide within the sources reflected in it (the Bible and hagiographical-homiletical monuments).
