Parental Involvement in School Life
Parental involvement in school life is of particular importance to student success. According to research, the more involved a parent is in their child's learning and education process, the higher the student's level of achievement; student motivation increases; the child develops a more positive attitude toward school; the quality of learning increases; discipline improves; the authority of the school and the teacher grows; and one of the most important components of a successful educational process is the goodwill established between the parent and the school.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is launching various programs in this direction. First of all, within the framework of the G-PriEd (Georgia Primary Education Project), a collection of activities and exercises intended for parents has been prepared, which contains reading and mathematics development activities and will help parents become closer to their child and promote the development of the child's skills. Today, Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, and Nancy Parks, Head of the Georgia Primary Education Project, personally handed over the collection to the parents of students of Tbilisi Public School No. 45. The collection was created for parents of primary grade students and translated into Georgian, Azerbaijani, Armenian, and Russian. The collection includes activity cards, with 20-24 cards at each level. The collection is grouped by 2 grades each (Grades I-II, III-IV, V-VI). For example, the parent of a 1st-grade student will receive the Grade I-II collection, and so on.
At this stage, the activity cards have been distributed to the parents of primary grade students in 122 pilot schools of the project. In the future, this resource will become accessible to all parents. Prior to handing over the collection, seminars were held for parents regarding the importance of parental involvement.
The collection contains activities for parents to develop reading and math skills. The entertaining tasks provided in the collection will allow parents to help the child in developing speech, reading and writing, performing arithmetic operations, and solving mathematical problems.
Most of the presented activities are simple task instructions, while the rest are in the form of general recommendations. As a result of completing them, the child's learning motivation will increase, which is an important foundation for academic achievement in any subject.
