Science and Development Forum - Research Development in Georgia
At the Courtyard Marriott hotel, the "Science and Development Forum - Research Development in Georgia," organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the publishing house Elsevier BV, has opened.
The main theme of the forum was maximizing the efficiency of state funding for the development of science in Georgia, developing a strategy, advancing information infrastructure, and raising research quality.
During the event, research strategy and development at both the national and institutional levels were presented and discussed, along with information regarding relevant research and global trends in research management. Furthermore, the forum addressed the involvement of Georgian scientists in international research, as well as their support and encouragement.
The participants of the forum were addressed by Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, while the main speakers were: Giorgi Sharvashidze, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia; Giorgi Kintsurashvili, Head of the Skills and Competitiveness Development Department at the Innovation and Technology Agency of Georgia (GITA) of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; Marine Chitashvili, Director of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation; and Martin O'Malley, Director of STM Journals.
According to Martin O'Malley - this meeting is very important because it concerns the support of Georgian scientists. Elsevier is a large-scale scientific journal database. We reached an agreement with Georgia last year; we support the development of research by Georgian scientists, and this is extremely important because research is a global activity, and through this, we help Georgian scientists utilize international experience to conduct their research even better.
The forum was also attended by rectors and vice-rectors for scientific affairs of universities accredited in Georgia, heads of libraries, and directors of scientific research institutes.
The event is dedicated to the successful partnership between the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the publishing house Elsevier BV. Georgian scientists enjoy free access to Elsevier's largest international scientific database—scientific literature published worldwide. Additionally, the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry has access to SciVal Funding™ — a search database for scientist and research project funding, as well as a reviewer search database.
