European Standard Infrastructure Project
In 2010, the Niko Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics structurally merged with the Georgian Technical University. Regarding the Institute's building, the Technical University had serious future educational and research plans; however, the former authorities alienated the building and left the Institute of Computational Mathematics without premises. For several years, scientists conducted research at various universities while simultaneously continuing their struggle to reclaim the building.
Through the efforts of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the Institute was granted a new territory and building, and substantial funding was allocated to establish European-standard infrastructure. In a few months, the building equipped with state-of-the-art technologies will house the Institute of Computational Mathematics and the Center for Nuclear Engineering, which will operate in the field of information technology and be equipped with the latest equipment.
Within the framework of the agreement signed with CERN, the Georgian Technical University will also set up a modern computer system, a Grid Cluster, at the research institute, the resources of which will be used both for solving local tasks and by CERN as an integral part of its system. High-level work performed using Grid and Cloud technologies is of essential importance for the further economic and social development of our country.
The rehabilitation and equipping of the Niko Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics is part of a large-scale project implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science for the development of science. As a result, for the first time in Georgia, a unified system of research and teaching will become operational, equipped with appropriate intellectual and infrastructural resources, which will facilitate Georgia's integration as an equal member into the international scientific space.
