New supportive project for hearing impaired people starts

In 2013, while the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia started implementation of inclusive education, one of the most important identified priorities was improvement of education quality to hearing impaired pupils and students.  Parents’ involvement in children education plays a crucial role in education quality assurance process.

Considering the above, Norwegian delegation from The Ministry of Education and Research of Noeway visits Georgia during 7-11 September 2015.  They hold working meetings with the parents of hearing impaired children. Their aim is to give more information to parents concerning the psychological and social aspects of hearing impairment.

More than 60 parents are involved in the process. Meetings are held with relevant structural units of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the National Center of Teacher Professional Development, and wit administration representatives of hearing impaired students specialized public schools.

As a result of the meetings, parents’ awareness concerning the education of hearing impaired individuals will be increased greatly and in addition, Parent Empowerment Program will be founded which will be based on international experience and the latest research results.

Within the framework of Parent Empowerment Program, many things are taken under consideration, including teaching the gesture language and the methodology which introduces the parents to children development peculiarities and psychological barriers related to hearing impairment, as well as they realize the opportunities which they have under the conditions of education and rehabilitation.

Piloting the mentioned program is set to start from October 2015 by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia through the cooperation with National Center of Professional Development.
