Statement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia

Following the widespread transmission of the influenza virus, the rate of school absences due to student illness has increased.
With the aim of reducing the public impact, and based on recommendations received from the National Center for Disease Control, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has made the decision to suspend the educational process for the next three days in those specific institutions where the rate of absences exceeds 20%.
The Ministry is collecting information on student attendance regarding both morning and second-shift students. The attendance rate in the second shiftโduring which primarily primary grade students studyโexceeds the 20% threshold in a number of schools. Nationwide, there are 180 such public schools.
