Statement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia

Based on the recommendations received from the National Center for Disease Control, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has made a decision to suspend the educational process for 3 days in those specific schools where the rate of absenteeism exceeds 20%. However, the missed hours will be made up at the expense of Saturdays.
The Ministry continues to monitor the attendance of students in both the morning and second shifts. Furthermore, schools are urged to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia, which are mainly related to preventive measures. Specifically, persons showing symptoms of the illness should not be allowed into the school, wet-cleaning of the buildings, desks, and floors with appropriate solutions should be intensified, classrooms should be ventilated during every recess, and personal hygiene practicesโespecially handwashing regimensโshould be observed to the maximum extent possible, etc.
The Ministry monitors schools using a random selection principle to check how well they are fulfilling these recommendations.
