March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day

On the World Down Syndrome Day, the Association of Down Syndrome of Georgia organized a conference titled "What do I add to my workplace", which was dedicated to the challenges of employing people with Down syndrome.

World Down Syndrome Day – March 21, was officially adopted in 2010, under the auspices of the United Nations. This year Georgia joins the world stage. This year’s world message is – “What do I add to society?”

The development of inclusive education, increasing the quality of education and making it accessible to the adolescents with the Down syndrome, is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

Since 2013, together with developing the inclusive education, the individuals with special educational needs have the opportunity to receive vocational education, which implies having the environment tailored to their physical and individual needs.

In spring of 2018, the Parliament of Georgia initiated the new vocational education legislation. The new legislation will make the education system more flexible for the students with special educational needs.

In 2013, a special employment support was designed for the individuals with special educational needs, specialists were trained and transferred to the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, as well as to the various Social Agency departments.
