Memorandum signed with Peace Corps

Alexander Tevzadze - the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and Carmen Schehan – the Acting director of the US Peace Corps in Georgia, have signed a new five-year memorandum of cooperation. Signing of the Memorandum will further deepen the relations with the United States, thus promoting the knowledge and learning of the English language in the regions of Georgia.

Based on the newly signed Memorandum, 84 English Language volunteer teachers will serve in 11 regions of Georgia from the 2018-2019 academic year. The volunteers will work with the public-school students and assist local teachers in mastering the English language. Within the scope of the short-term support, the peace corps volunteers will also help vocational schools and resource center staff members, students to develop their professional skills. Owing to the new memorandum, youth-oriented programs will be launched, implemented by the American volunteers in collaboration with the Youth Politics Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

Before the service commences, the volunteers will undergo an intensive pre-school training, which includes studying some Georgian language, learning about the local Georgian culture, in conjunction with acquiring sufficient project-related skills. Additionally, the above-mentioned volunteers will remain in Georgian host families for the duration of two years.

Since 2001 Georgia has been cooperating with the US Peace Corps, while over 815 volunteers have been serving in our country.
