A conference entitled "Together for the Development of Preschool Education" was held at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
The event was organized by the organization "Save the Children" and the international association "Civitas Georgica" within the framework of the World Bank-funded project "Promoting Preschool Education in Georgia through Social Accountability".
The conference aimed to familiarize participants with the results achieved during the implementation of the project and to deepen cooperation between the National Preschool Education Association, central and local authorities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Professional Development Center of Teachers and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), leaders and staff of the municipality mayoralties participating in the project, all heads of Georgian preschool education associations and agencies, as well as international and local organizations and experts working on preschool education issues.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport a.i. / Deputy Minister Irina Abuladze met with the conference participants at the Ministry. She addressed the audience and spoke about the comprehensive work required for the development of preschool education, which the Ministry is actively carrying out in cooperation with other responsible ministries, municipalities, and organizations.
According to her, the development of preschool education requires continuous and coordinated work with all responsible agencies, as the issue is comprehensive and requires a unified systemic approach; otherwise, any steps taken in this direction will be ineffective or will only address the problem superficially.
The Ministry is actively working to resolve infrastructure problems in preschool institutions, as well as to establish an effective educational program and a system for retraining and certification of educators and teachers.
Specific steps have also been taken to raise the educational level of parents of preschool-aged children. On the initiative of the Ministry, the web portal EL.GE was created, hosting educational and cognitive resources produced and provided by the Ministry’s partners, which will contribute to:
The electronic resources hosted on the portal will help teachers update the classroom process, and assist students, pupils, preschool children, and their parents in developing modern skills.
