Within the framework of the education reform, teachers and schools are actively preparing for the introduction of the "New School Model". The preparation of support groups for 50 schools is underway intensively.
"New School Model" is part of the planned reform in the education system. Its goal is to establish a critical thinking and person-oriented educational environment that will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for 21st-century challenges. The training consists of several modules and is also planned to be conducted in the regions.
The main task of the support groups is to help schools improve the school climate and the quality of teaching and learning. The support groups will work with I-IV grade teachers on a school-based coaching principle in the following main directions:
- Development and implementation of the school curriculum;
- Development of effective school management approaches;
- Integration of digital technologies into the teaching and learning process.
The trainings for the members of the support groups are led by experts from the Department of Preschool and General Education Development of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and trainers from the LEPL National Center for Teacher Professional Development. Upon completion of the trainings, the support groups will gradually continue their work in the schools selected for them.
The "New School Model" will become operational in 50 pilot schools starting from March 2019, and from the autumn, this model will encompass another 100 schools and will be gradually introduced across public schools throughout Georgia.
