Methodological guidelines for inclusive education developed by the Ministry for teachers and parents
On the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, with the involvement of psychologists and occupational therapists, supporting guides have been created for parents and teachers of students with disabilities and special educational needs.
The methodological resource developed by the Inclusive Development Division of the Ministry includes practical recommendations for promoting student development and will assist both parents and field specialists in planning and implementing activities aimed at developing a student's academic, cognitive, functional, behavioral, emotional, communicative, and other skills.
The purpose of creating the guide is to inform school personnel about positive behavioral support, which, unlike traditional school discipline, focuses not only on the necessity of proper response to undesired behavior, but also on the prevention of behavioral difficulties. Instead of punishment, it utilizes the teacher's method of modeling, encouraging, and teaching desired behavior to the student.
The guide details recommended classroom management techniques, discusses the specifics and characteristics of the positive behavioral support program, as well as individual cases and behavior management in schools during crisis situations.
These guides are: Promoting the Development of Students with Intellectual Disabilities; Promoting the Development of Students with Learning Disabilities; Promoting the Development of Students with Motor Disabilities; Promoting the Development of Students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; Promoting the Development of Students with Language, Speech, and Communication Difficulties; Promoting the Development of Students with Autism; Promoting the Development of Students with Hearing Impairments; Promoting the Development of Students with Visual Impairments; Positive Behavioral Support in Schools - Preventive Activities; Individual Cases of Behavior Management; Behavior Management in Schools During Crisis Situations.
