Irina Abuladze met with the working group of the "Eastern Partnership European School"
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Irine Abuladze, held a meeting with the coordination working group for the implementation of the 2nd phase of the Eastern Partnership European School. The meeting was attended by Lawrence Meredith, Director for Eastern Partnership at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
During the meeting, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), contracted by the European Union as the project implementer, and experts conducting the feasibility study, presented the ongoing and future planned activities within the framework of the project to the members of the working group.
Among other issues, the members of the working group discussed the implementation of preparatory activities for the large-scale event planned by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia to solemnly celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Eastern Partnership initiative in Georgia, such as the informal ministerial meeting planned within the framework of the visit of EU Commissioners.
It is noteworthy that in September 2019, Georgia will host the Eastern Partnership Informal Ministerial with the participation of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, and the Ministers of Education of the Eastern Partnership countries. Within the framework of the visit of the President of the European Commission, an event related to the construction of the European School will be inaugurated, including a ground-breaking ceremony (laying of the time capsule) on the plot of land allocated near Lisi Lake.
We would like to remind you that, on the initiative of the European Union and in agreement with the Government of Georgia, the first unique "Eastern Partnership European School" of regional significance outside the European Union will be established in Georgia. The establishment of the European School in Georgia represents the 20th deliverable of the "20 Deliverables for 2020" developed by the European Union.
