Francophonie Days in Georgia

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the French Institute in Georgia, along with the Embassies of France, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Romania and Moldova, together with school and university institutions, are celebrating the Days of the French Language and Francophonie. Numerous events have been held in Georgia in connection with this day, including a reception hosted by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Irina Abuladze, for successful students and their teachers from Public School No. 23.
Within the framework of the event, Irina Abuladze presented French textbooks and gifts to the students and teachers for their successful participation and victories in Francophone competitions, on behalf of Natia Sabanadze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister briefly reviewed the activities of the International Organisation of La Francophonie and noted that one-third of the population of UN member states and more than 220 million people across all five continents speak French, and that the Francophone population is the second largest in Europe after the German-speaking population. As is known, French is taught intensively at Public School No. 23, and in cooperation with the French Institute in Georgia, numerous events and competitions are held. At the meeting, the students also spoke at length about the Francophone competitions and their personal motivation.
