Elections for the Board of Trustees are held in general education institutions

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Irina Abuladze, visited Public School No. 126 and familiarized herself with the ongoing process of the Board of Trustees elections.
On June 17, 2019, elections for the Board of Trustees โ the highest governing body of the school โ are being held in general education institutions (public schools) of Georgia.
Registration of candidates for membership of the Board of Trustees began on June 5 and lasted through June 11. These are the fifth regular elections (the first elections were held in 2006). The composition of the Board of Trustees includes teachers, parents of students, and a representative elected by the high school student self-government.
The Board of Trustees is one of the most important links in school governance. Schools elect an equal number of parents and teachers to the Board of Trustees. Furthermore, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and local self-government have the right to have their representatives on the Board of Trustees.
The school Board of Trustees elects the school principal, approves the school's internal regulations and budget upon the presentation of the school principal, elects the disciplinary committee, agrees upon the school curriculum, and exercises other powers granted by legislation. Teachers and parents of students are elected to the Board of Trustees for a 3-year term.
In order to improve the quality of organization and conduct of the Board of Trustees elections, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is monitoring the electoral process in all regions of Georgia.
Active members of civil society, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations who have expressed a desire to be involved in the processes and monitor the elections, can attend the Board of Trustees elections with observer status.
