Mikheil Batiashvili: "The main goal of introducing the New School Model is not only the transfer of knowledge, but also the development of critical thinking in students"
Mikheil Batiashvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with the implementation team of the "General Education Reform Support" program, met with the principals and teachers of the schools where the "New School Model" is being introduced.
At the meeting, the Minister spoke about the importance of the project in the process of improving the quality of teaching and learning.
"In order for the education system to provide students with the knowledge required to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, changing educational approaches is inevitable. It is essential to establish a student-centered educational environment in schools that will enable every teenager to realize their full potential. The primary goal of teaching should not be merely the transfer of knowledge, but the development of critical and complex thinking skills in students. Achieving this goal is impossible without the educator – the teacher is the driving force of the reform," stated Mikheil Batiashvili during the meeting.
The Minister also emphasized that the dedication of principals and teachers is of decisive importance throughout the course of the project. Only in this way is it possible to achieve good results.
At this stage, 165 public schools across Georgia are involved in the "New School Model". The project will be implemented gradually in all public schools of Georgia by 2024.
