"Georgian Headdress" – Book Presentation

At the Georgian Art Palace, Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Levan Kharatishvili and Badri Maisuradze attended the presentation of the book "Georgian Headwear".
The 600-page bilingual catalogue is part of a large-scale scientific project and represents the second volume of the publication "Fabric from Georgia". The encyclopedic work includes collections from both the Art Palace and the Museum of Folk and Applied Arts of the same palace. It contains over 500 high-quality illustrations and tells the story of the history of Georgian attire from the early Middle Ages to the 19th century. The book is accompanied by three atlases of Georgian crowns, hats, and graphic forms of weaving.
Within the framework of the project, alongside the book presentation, an exhibition of Georgian historical fabrics and headwear was opened. The exposition brings together fabrics restored by Tinatin Kldiashvili and Ekaterine Geguchadze based on historical frescoes, as well as the unique Georgian ritual crown, which was restored to its original appearance with the support of the Bank of Georgia. As a result of restoration work carried out by restorers and jewelers over a period of 6 months, the crown is once again presented with 48 diamonds, 1 large golden royal topaz, 7 emeralds, 48 garnets, 19 jadeites, 12 turquoises, 8 citrines, and 12 rock crystals.
The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
