Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "It is essential to create a learner-centered educational environment in schools that will enable every teenager to realize their potential."

During his speech in Parliament, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, noted that it is essential to create a person-centered environment in both public and private schools so that every adolescent is given the opportunity to realize their potential.
“In order for the education system to provide students with the knowledge required to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, changing educational approaches is inevitable. To reduce bureaucracy, it is necessary to take effective steps towards the decentralization of schools and to establish a person-centered educational environment in schools, which will enable every adolescent to realize their potential. The primary goal of teaching should not be merely the transfer of knowledge, but the development of critical and complex thinking skills in students.
This is precisely what the introduction of the ‘New School Model’ entails. Within its framework, in 2019, teaching and learning principles focused on student development, student development-oriented assessment practices, and teamwork based on collaboration and responsibility were introduced in over 100 schools in Georgia. The program also involves the integration of digital technologies and the creation of an assessment system that promotes progress and development. The introduction of this model creates the conditions for students to develop complex, critical, and analytical thinking. Gradually, by 2023, the program will encompass all public schools in Georgia,” stated the Minister during his address in Parliament.
