When speaking in Parliament, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, spoke about the large-scale infrastructural projects implemented and planned in 2019.
“The development of the education system in the regions is of utmost importance. A prominent project in this regard is the construction of the Education and Science City in Batumi. Just a few days ago, together with Tornike Rizhvadze, Chairman of the Government of Adjara, we laid a symbolic capsule at the construction site of the branch and residential campus of Tbilisi Vladimir Komarov Physics-Mathematics Public School N199 within the framework of the project.
Natural science and computer laboratories, a library, conference and sports halls, as well as a sports ground, will be set up in the modern-type building of the Batumi branch of the Komarov School, designed for 250 pupils. The school will be equipped with modern school inventory. A residential campus designed for 100 pupils will be built within the project.
The project also envisions the construction of the “Black Sea” vocational college, a multifunctional center, and an art school in the area adjacent to the Komarov School. A similar education city is being built in Tbilisi, and constructions are also planned in other cities.
One of the priorities of the education reform is the creation of modern infrastructure, which will facilitate the conduct of the educational process in a modern and technologically sound environment. At the same time, it is important to increase access to the latest technologies at all stages of teaching, as well as to develop professional skills in the younger generation and establish a healthy lifestyle.
In 2019, the construction of 6 new public schools was completed; the construction of 28 new public schools is ongoing; the full rehabilitation of 38 public schools has been completed; the full rehabilitation of 2 public schools is ongoing,” stated the Minister during his speech in Parliament.
