Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, hosted Justin McKenzie Smith, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, and discussed with him current and future cooperation plans across all levels of education. The meeting was attended by Zaza Purtseladze, Director General of the British Council in Georgia.
During the meeting, Mikheil Chkhenkeli summarized the crucial meetings held with British educational and publishing organizations within the framework of the "World Education Forum" in London. According to the Minister, it is important to integrate major British publishing organizations into Georgia's educational space. Mikheil Chkhenkeli presented Justin McKenzie Smith with the vision regarding the introduction of e-books, which will significantly improve the teaching and learning process in schools and advance it to a qualitatively new stage. The advantage of digital textbooks lies in the fact that, along with reading the material, students will have access to multimedia interactive resources such as self-assessment tests, virtual laboratories, and other applications. The Minister expressed hope that leading British educational and publishing organizations will actively engage in the implementation of this idea.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli also emphasized that his productive visit to London has already yielded results. Specifically, based on the decision made during the meeting with the management of the UK state vocational college "Portsmouth College", a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Batumi State Maritime Academy and the said college. Within the framework of cooperation, the parties will work on joint projects and implement various exchange programs.
During the meeting, Mikheil Chkhenkeli expressed his desire to further strengthen the English language teaching component in Georgia's public schools, vocational colleges, and higher education institutions in cooperation with the British Council.
The Minister thanked the British Ambassador for implementing numerous important cultural and educational projects in Georgia and highlighted the special contribution of the British Council in this process.
