Starting from the 2021-2022 academic year, the students of the public school in the village of Peria, Khelvachauri Municipality, will continue their studies in a new, modernly equipped building. Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with Maia Khajishvili, Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, inspected the construction process on-site and met with the students and their teachers.
The four-story school building, compliant with modern standards, is designed for 430 students. Environmentally friendly construction materials have been used during the construction process. Safety standards and the needs of students with special educational needs have been fully taken into account in the school's design. For the upcoming academic year, the building will be equipped with the latest modern school inventory, and the school will feature an educational laboratory, a library, a computer lab, and a sports ground.
The construction is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Ajara, and the total cost of the project is 3,444,444 GEL.
Following the inspection of the construction site, the Deputy Minister also attended an Abkhazian language class in the old building of the Peria Public School. The students presented a literary performance in the Abkhazian language and performed Abkhazian folk songs.
In the village of Peria, where up to 300 Abkhazian-Georgian families reside, the teaching of the Abkhazian language began in January 2017. At this stage, two groups of learners are functioning, and the Abkhazian language is taught to them by Liana Aikutsba, a linguist by profession.
