The basketball national team returned to Tbilisi following their victory in Serbia

The Georgian national basketball team returned to Tbilisi after securing a victory against the Serbian national team in Belgrade. Coached by Ilias Zouros, the team defeated one of the giants of world basketball, the Serbian national team, 94:90 in the qualifying match for the FIBA EuroBasket 2021, and is now the sole leader of Group E with two wins out of two matches.
Upon their return to Tbilisi, the Georgian national team was greeted at the airport and congratulated on their historic victory by Shalva Gogoladze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, and Irakli Dolaberidze, Head of the Sports Development Department.
Prior to their victory in Serbia, the basketball team defeated the Swiss national team 96:88 at the Tbilisi Sports Palace. Their next official match is scheduled for November 27, when they will face the Finnish national team away.
As a reminder, Tbilisi will host one of the groups of the FIBA EuroBasket 2021 final stage. While our team is already guaranteed to participate in the European Championship, they are still competing in the qualifying stage—just like the other host countries—which provides the coaching staff with the opportunity to prepare the team and test new tactical schemes. Furthermore, the team's young basketball players gain valuable experience by competing against giants of Serbia's caliber.
