LEPL "Creative Georgia" is the first beneficiary from Georgia of the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity

LEPL Creative Georgia has become a beneficiary of the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity for the project "Creative Transformation". The decision was made by the Committee of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions at the committee session held at the UNESCO Headquarters on February 12, 2020. The project was selected among the 9 best out of 480 applications submitted to the competition and secured funding in the amount of 88,269 US dollars. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Levan Kharatishvili spoke about this significant success and the project at a press conference.
"Creative Transformation" is the first funded project from Georgia aimed at researching the creative industries sector and developing a strategy within the country. The project will last for 18 months, during which a five-year development strategy and a two-year action plan for creative industries will be formulated. Along with the general development of the sector, the strategy aims to utilize the potential of creative entrepreneurship to empower youth, women, and vulnerable groups, and to engage them in the socio-economic life of the country.
For the first time in Georgia, a nationwide needs and resources assessment of the creative industries will be conducted, which, along with information about companies operating in the sector, will be reflected in a unified database and a printed publication.
Along with other components, the project includes conducting an awareness-raising campaign on the economic and social potential of the sector, which involves holding meetings, conferences, and seminars.
The press conference was also attended by Irma Ratiani, Director of LEPL "Creative Georgia"; Elene Toidze, Head of the Creative Industries Direction at LEPL "Creative Georgia" (project author); and Ketevan Kandelaki, Chairperson of the Georgian National Commission for UNESCO.
