Teleskola project to add various subjects amongst the lessons already available for ethnic minorities
The joint project of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the First Channel of Georgia – Teleskola, was launched on March 30 and continues successfully.
As according to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, the first stage of the project implied the introduction of Georgian language lessons for ethnic minorities residing in Georgia, followed by the implementation of various subjects in Azerbaijani and Armenian languages.
As expected, from April 13, TV lessons for students of ethnic minorities in Armenian and Azerbaijani will be taught in mathematics, environmental studies, biology, as well as Armenian and Azerbaijani as native languages. TV lessons will be designed for students of all grades. It is also crucial, that lessons of general skills are held for the entrants.
Teleskola is being aired by Georgian Public Broadcasting, First Channel - Education (formerly Second Channel). The project allows all students, regardless of whether they have access to the Internet, find interesting and cognitive lessons across all subjects.
The creation of TV lessons for ethnic minorities was carried out jointly by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia, the First Channel of Georgia and the College of Media and Television Arts of Tbilisi State University.
As you know, the Prime Minister-led Interagency Coordination Council has decided to temporarily suspend all learning activities for the prevention of coronavirus. The Council instructed the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia to maximize access to distance learning in order to facilitate the teaching-learning process. The joint project of the Ministry and the First Channel of Georgia Teleskola serves to accomplish this precise task.
It should be noted that a report published by the International Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on overcoming the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, mentions the steps taken by the Georgian government to ensure a continuous education projects as one of the best examples. Amongst the projects, Teleskola is evaluated as one of the best measures for distance learning practices.
