Microsoft Corporation: "The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is making digital learning a reality"

Corporation Microsoft positively evaluates the successful introduction of modern technologies in the teaching and learning process by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, as well as the fruitful cooperation with the agency.

The company conducted a detailed study of the Ministry's process of implementing Microsoft's educational products during the pandemic and post-pandemic periods in distance learning, recognized the steps taken by the agency in this direction as a successful model, and published a comprehensive analysis (Case Study) on its official website.

“The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia continuously introduces innovations into the education system — virtual classrooms, chatbots, and game-based learning — in order to provide education saturated with hybrid technologies nationwide. To activate the new reform, the Ministry selected Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams programs for schools,” reads the material published by Microsoft.

The publication features an excerpt from an interview with Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, where he speaks in detail about the fruitful cooperation between Microsoft and the Ministry and emphasizes the importance of integrating modern technologies into the teaching and learning process.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: „In the 21st century, digital technologies are of particular importance in human activity. In order for students to receive a comprehensive education and at the same time be competitive upon graduation, they need access to electronic resources. Interactive online materials, online courses, collaborative study groups, digital libraries, game-based lessons — all of these are core components of a modern learning experience.“

During the interview, the Minister also spoke about the ongoing reforms and future plans in the education system of Georgia.

„The reform must change the philosophy of teaching subjects. It is essential that teaching always sparks curiosity. Psychologists and teachers agree that young people absorb any type of material better when they are having fun,“ says the Minister in an interview with Microsoft representatives.

The publication published by Microsoft also discusses the steps taken by the agency to increase students' access to online learning resources, with special emphasis on the project of introducing the Minecraft Education Edition program in schools.

„Furthermore, to increase students' interest in the learning process, the Minecraft Education Edition program has been launched in a pilot mode in approximately 150 schools in Georgia, which involves game-based lessons that will help young people engage in the classroom process more creatively.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: Minecraft Education Edition combines education with play. Using it, you can create virtual museums, fortresses, historical monuments, which sparks young people's interest not only in their own culture, but also in other cultures. The Ministry aims to introduce the Minecraft program in the majority of public schools in Georgia by September 2020.

Computer literacy has become a vital skill. Our digital transformation is specifically designed to prepare the new generation who will live and work in an even more technologically advanced world," reads the publication published by Microsoft.

The publication is based on in-depth interviews with representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the Education Management Information System, and stakeholders involved in the process, as well as an analysis of statistical data.
