Georgia is hosting the 4th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI)

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and organized by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, the 4th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics is being held online from September 2-6 with a record number of participating countries — nearly 30.
The technical and infrastructural support of the Olympiad is provided by the International Black Sea University and the Georgian Research and Educational Networking Association “GRENA”.
The Olympiad opened in an electronic format on September 2 at 16:00 with a solemn ceremony, which featured a presentation of a promotional video about Georgia. Following the welcoming remarks by Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Jaba Samushia, General Director of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, and Giorgi Mandaria, President of the Olympiad, the participating countries of the Olympiad were introduced.
In his speech, the Minister wished success to the participants of the Olympiad and noted that, by the decision of the International Committee, the 2021 Olympiad will again be organized by Georgia in a traditional format, provided that the global epidemiological situation improves:
“I am very glad that Georgia has ensured the high-level organization of the 2020 European Junior Olympiad in Informatics in an online format. We have proven that today, amid global challenges, large-scale international events can be held online through the use of modern technologies and coordinated cooperation.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish success to all participants of the Olympiad. I hope that next year the world will defeat the Covid-19 pandemic and we will host the participants of the next European Junior Olympiad in Informatics in Georgia,” stated Mikheil Chkhenkeli.
This year, in addition to the main team, Georgia has presented an additional team that is participating in the Olympiad out of competition. The winning teams — owners of gold, silver, and bronze medals — will be identified based on qualifying rounds. The solemn closing ceremony of the Olympiad will be held online on September 6 at 17:00.
For the 2020 Olympiad held in Georgia, an official website was created at http://ejoi2020.ge, and tasks along with a special automated testing system were prepared.
By hosting the Olympiad and through its high-level organization, Georgia once again presents itself as a country that holds a worthy place among the leading countries of Europe and the world in the development of modern information technologies, possessing appropriate, highly qualified specialists and pedagogical staff in this field.
The Georgian national teams for the Junior Olympiad in Informatics were selected based on the results of the National Olympiad in Informatics and an additional qualifying round, taking into account the relevant age limit.
The European Junior Olympiad in Informatics is an important international event aimed at the development of information technologies in the member states of the Council of Europe. It is held according to the rules and standards of the International Olympiad in Informatics. The European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) was first held in Bulgaria in 2017.
