The winning project of the European Union competition "European Researchers' Night", "Science is Captain", is launching

To promote the development of science, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is launching the implementation of the winning project “Science is Captain” under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) “European Researchers' Night” competition of the European Union program “Horizon 2020”.
Through this project, Georgia is joining the pan-European festival “European Researchers' Night”, in which 30 EU member states and Horizon 2020 associated countries participate. On November 27-28, 2020, the main events of the project “Science is Captain”—large-scale, multidisciplinary, educational, entertaining, cultural, and sports activities—will be held remotely in Tbilisi, Telavi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Akhaltsikhe, and Zugdidi. For the first time in history, Georgia will appear on the map of festival events taking place synchronously across EU member states and Horizon 2020 associated countries, which will be hosted on the special website of the “European Researchers' Night” festival.
“Science is Captain” serves to showcase science as a part of everyday life for all segments of society and to popularize science among the general public of Georgia.
The project also envisions pre-events, in particular: a short story competition for students – “O Captain! My Captain our Scientific trip here starts”; a playwriting competition about the life of Maria Skłodowska-Curie for school pupils and students; a competition for creating musical compositions and drawings on scientific themes; the organization of “open laboratories and museums” for school pupils; the training “Supporting Intersectoral Cooperation Opportunities Between Research and Industry” supported by Twinning, etc.
The implementation of the project involves the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, research institutions, universities, the Writers' House, as well as individuals active in the fields of science, education, culture, and sport.
“European Researchers' Night” is a large-scale European science and innovation festival held since 2005 in dozens of cities across EU member states and countries associated with the “Horizon 2020” program. The project of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, “Science is Captain”, is the winner of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie “European Researchers' Night” competition held within the framework of this very festival, with a grant budget of EUR 197,500.
