Practical and special education teachers are given the opportunity to raise their teacher status before the start of the 2021-2022 academic year

Taking into account the current epidemiological situation and the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, the teacher examinations, as well as the special teacher examinations, will be held before the start of the 2021-2022 academic year.
Consequently, upon the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, amendments have been made to the Scheme for Teacher Initiation, Professional Development and Career Advancement.
The amendment applies to those practicing teachers (except for practicing teachers of non-Georgian language schools/sectors) who were teaching in a general education institution as of January 31, 2020, and registered for the teacher examination between February 1 and April 30, 2020. They are granted the right to raise their teacher status before the start of the 2021-2022 academic year.
In addition, practicing teachers who, as of January 31, 2020, had accumulated 15 credit points (including those who had partially confirmed subject and/or professional competencies) and did not/could not register for the teacher examination by April 30, 2020, are granted the right to register for the teacher examination and supplement their accumulated 15 credit points to 19 credit points.
The amendments introduced to the Scheme also apply to senior teachers. Specifically, during the 2020-2021 academic year, they will be granted the right to undergo external observation only (in both face-to-face and remote formats). If they successfully pass the external observation by December 31, 2020, they will be awarded the status of lead teacher starting from January 2021, and if they successfully pass it by June 15, 2021 – by September 30, 2021.
It is also noteworthy that if a senior teacher obtains an academic doctoral degree before the start of the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, they will be awarded the status of lead teacher.
