A successful project was implemented at the "New Wave" college to employ persons with disabilities
On December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the "New Wave" vocational college in Kobuleti hosted a summary online meeting dedicated to the vocational retraining project implemented for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Tamar Kitiashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, participated in the event.
With the support of Hilton Batumi hotel, the "New Wave" vocational college of Kobuleti implemented the vocational training program "Hotel Reception and Accommodation Procedures". The program was intended for persons with disabilities and aimed at their retraining and assistance in employment in order to master the hotel business. The project was implemented within the framework of the memorandum signed between the Administration of the Government of Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the South Caucasus.
The educational process was conducted remotely, via an electronic platform. The process was led by a representative of the college's partner hotel, Hilton Batumi. The hotel also ensured the use of an electronic hotel management program and the simulation of a real working environment in the online space (in the form of a virtual tour).
Ten persons with disabilities completed the vocational hotel business program. Two of the graduates were employed at Hilton Batumi hotel. After the end of the epidemiological situation, the hotel is ready to employ two more graduates. Negotiations are also underway with other hotels.
The summary meeting was attended by the graduates, Lela Akiashvili, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Gender Equality Issues, Sopio Benashvili, Project Manager and Representative of the Tbilisi Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the program coordinator, as well as representatives of the "New Wave" college and Hilton Batumi hotel.
