Givi Mikanadze Takes Part in the Opening of the International Conference on Medical Education "ECCES 2026"
A two-day international conference on medical education, "ECCES 2026", is being held in Tbilisi. Its opening was attended by Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth, and Mikheil Sarjveladze, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs.
In his speech, Givi Mikanadze spoke about the importance of quality assurance in medical education, the need to strengthen international cooperation in this area, and Ken Walker's contribution to the development of medical education in Georgia.
The Minister highlighted Georgia's achievements in quality assurance in medical education. As he noted, in 2018 the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement obtained recognition from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) for a period of ten years, which was an important step forward in developing Georgia's medical education accreditation system and in promoting the international mobility of graduates of Georgian medical programmes.
Welcoming remarks were delivered to the conference participants by Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze, Eka Ekaladze, Rector of Ken Walker International University, and Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University.
The two-day conference, on the theme "Advancing Medical Education: Internationalisation, Innovation and Academic Success", is dedicated to the 90th birthday of Dr Ken Walker, Professor of Medicine and Neurology at Emory University.
During the conference, participants will discuss improving the quality of medical education, strengthening international cooperation, innovative teaching approaches, the use of artificial intelligence in the learning process, and supporting students' academic success.
The conference programme includes keynote presentations, panel discussions, scientific presentations, an exhibition of student research work, interactive workshops and clinical master classes.
The international conference aims to create opportunities for sharing experience and forming new academic ties, and will contribute to the development of international partnerships and the introduction of modern standards in medical education.
The event is attended by Emory University professors, international and local experts in medical education, university leaders, professors, researchers, students and representatives of partner institutions.
