The exams have ended

This year, the Unified National Examinations, Teacher Certification Examinations, and Master's Examinations were conducted without any incidents or flaws.

Out of more than 35,000 entrants, only 2% failed to appear, 12 entrants were not admitted to the examination due to lateness, and no cases of disqualification due to procedural violations were recorded.

Certification exams for educators began on July 2. Out of 40,000 registered teachers, nearly 32,000 passed the professional skills exam, and nearly 27,000 passed the subject-matter exam. Only four educators were disqualified from the exam due to procedural violations, 8 were not admitted due to lateness, and 10% of the teachers themselves failed to appear for the exam.

On July 6, examinations were held for candidates seeking grant enhancements; out of nearly 5,000 registered students, 10% did not appear for the exam. No cases of disqualification or lateness were recorded.

On July 12 and 13, master's degree candidates joined the examination process. They took exams in analytical writing, reading comprehension, logical reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. More than 7,500 applicants registered for the master's examinations in 2012. 8% failed to appear. It is noteworthy that only a 100% state grant, amounting to 2,250 GEL, is provided for prospective master's students.

On June 28, 17 examination centers opened across 12 cities in Georgia. This year, the examination centers were equipped with nearly 850 video cameras and over 9,000 new desks. The examination process was monitored by approximately 1,300 coordinators and observers. This format of the Unified National Examinations was used for the last time this year. Starting next year, a new 8+1 examination model will be implemented.

In 2012, innovations were implemented in several directions for the Unified National Examinations:

• In 2012, for the first time, applicants registered for the Unified National Examinations exclusively via the internet, on the website of the Ministry's National Assessment and Examinations Center (www.naec.ge; www.online.naec.ge);

• Secondary enrollments were abolished — instead of seven, entrants were given the opportunity to choose twenty desired faculties from the very beginning;

• The minimum competency threshold for medical and law faculties was increased by 10%. Accordingly, applicants wishing to enroll in medical and law programs must overcome a 35% barrier in three subjects and a 30% barrier in the fourth subject, which is a foreign language;

• This year, for the first time, the announcement of examination results will be expedited. Instead of September, the results will become known on August 25. Applicants will be able to view their papers in early August on the website: www.naec.ge
