The purpose of the conference was to inform the public about the activities carried out by the Department in 2013, as well as the creation and development of the national curriculum, the issues concerning its implementation, and prospects for its development.
The conference was opened by Deputy Minister Lia Gigauri, while Natia Jokhadze, Head of the National Curriculum Department, and department experts introduced the attendees to the programs and projects that were successfully implemented by the Department throughout the year across several directions. These included: the creation of subject guides accompanying the basic-secondary level national curriculum, the Einstein School Natural Science Laboratory, team sports and inclusive education support guides, classifiers of educational resources, computer learning games for primary school students, and the implementation of significant and effective activities to support inclusive and preschool education.
In addition, department experts delivered a report at the conference on programs implemented with the support of donors (UNICEF and the Norwegian Government). A special place was dedicated to the comparative analysis of the Georgian national curriculum with the curricula of other countries, as well as to research trends that may serve as the basis for future changes and further development of the national curriculum.
The event was attended by representatives of governmental and international organizations, the non-governmental sector, school principals, and active teachers.
On the second day of the conference, working meetings between subject experts and teachers will be held.
